Objective: Establish the evidence and build consideration of MNT and structured lifestyle for management of patients with T2D and unique clinical presentation or unique needs

Description:

This thematic course consisting of 5 expert video commentaries explores the unique clinical challenges faced by patients with T2D and additional physiological state of demand. It is well documented that MNT can improve glycemic control by reducing A1C and, when used with other components of diabetes care, can further improve clinical and metabolic outcomes, resulting in reduced comorbidities and hospitalizations The goals of MNT in diabetes management are generally twofold: to maintain or improve quality of life and nutritional and physiological health and to delay or prevent long-term complications of diabetes and associated comorbid conditions. Each course element is focused to review the role of MNT and structured lifestyle along with pharmacological therapy in improved diabetes management and reduced risk of serious complications or unsatisfactory outcomes.

Objective: Establish the evidence and build relevance of MNT and structured lifestyle intervention as an essential complement to prescription medications for tighter glycemic control and secondary prevention of serious comorbid complications in patients with poorly controlled diabetes

Description:
This thematic course consisting of 3 expert video commentaries and a real clinical case simulation, explores the pathological and clinical impact of chronic hyperglycemia and glucotoxicity on increased risk of serious macro and microvascular complications. For patients who are not meeting glycemic targets balance among efficacy in lowering A1C, side effects, and costs must be carefully weighed in considering treatment intensification and adherence to MNT and lifestyle. The experts in this series will discuss the role of personalised approach tailored to management of T2D with individual comorbidities. MNT and diabetes self-management education are integral parts of the treatment and self-management of diabetes. Failure to implement such strategies will increase pharmacological requirements or result in suboptimal glycemic control. This course will determine the effectiveness and clinical evidence of MNT and lifestyle in improving glycemic control, reduce risk of CV, renal and macro and microvascular complications. Each course element is synchronized to continue to build on the narrative and designed as a blended approach using theory and practical learning to enhance learning outcomes and effectiveness.
